The Tamarind restaurant and adjacent tearoom occupy 5000 sqauare feet and seat 150 people. The layout is inspired by a streetscape in an Indian town. It’s clean and contemporary, the material palette pale and warm, creating a serene, calm atmosphere. Custom silk light fixtures infuse a soft glow and antique artifacts and textiles serve as authentic touches of colorful India.
Tamarind Restaurant, New York, NY
The challenge here was to lure people down from the street to a hidden place. We accomplished this here with a bold entrance “gate” and a dramatically lit stair leading down. Chinoiserie served a fusion of French and Chinese cuisine. This mix inspired the color palette.
